Vitamin B12 Injections
B12 Injections
What is Vitamin B12 and what does it do?
Vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin, also known as cobalamin. It plays a vital role in brain function and the production of DNA, red blood cells and nerve cells. Chemically, vitamin B12 can exist in a number of different forms, but all of them contain the mineral cobalt.
B12 is an essential vitamin that you can become deficient in, particularly if you follow a restricted or special diet, if you’re pregnant or breast feeding, if you suffer from certain health conditions or if you are over a certain age. Heavy smokers and drinkers can also have low levels of B12.
How de we administer?
Vitamin B12 shots are the most common way to prevent or treat a deficiency. The injections are prescribed by a doctor as hydroxocobalamin and given intramuscularly in to the deltoid muscle at the top of the arm. These are very effective at raising blood levels of B12 and preventing and reversing a deficiency.
